about

akka.app is a french investment platform that democratizes access to high-potential tech startups.

it enables individuals to invest alongside industry leaders and guides users from discovery to investment, while offering educational content and community-driven insights.

context

akka.app wanted to refocus its user experience on the most relevant device for its target audience on mobile. however, the landing page wasn’t performing well in terms of engagement and conversion.

this redesign was also the right moment to update the offer, improve clarity and strengthen brand consistency across devices.

objectives

  • boost conversion rate

  • strengthen mobile brand consistency across the mobile version, especially on the landing page

results

  • +42% signups (conversion rate)

  • +18% demo booking

  • -31% bounce

the improved clarity and structure of the mobile website directly impacted leads, while the stronger brand alignment helped to reduce drop-offs

interviews

the most important part for me was to immerse myself in an entirely new universe, so i thought that the best way to know more was to speak directly with two people deeply involved in it every day : the co-founder and the cmo.

my goal through these interviews was to learn more about investment as a topic, its strategic and business challenges for akka.app and to understand their current users and target audience : this insight was essential to identify key aspects that could help boost the landing page’s impact.

i conducted 2 open-ended conversations that started with a few prepared questions to guide the discussion. after these interviews, i understood that akka.app’s users are individual investors who are ambitious and passionate about startups but they need reassurance and guidance to access to high-potential investment opportunities.

benchmark

since i had been primarily focused on desktop for a while i wanted to refresh my knowledge of mobile best practices.

one of the main challenges was to redesign akka.app’s landing page to better engage its target audience and encourage deeper exploration of their evolving service offerings. to do so, i conducted a detailed benchmark of platforms with highly effective landing pages, trying to focus on those that excel at storytelling, community engagement and conversion optimization.

i analyzed competitors in the investment and startup space but also looked beyond the sector at community-driven platforms like Netflix (which is known to be a classic example of how to create an inviting and trustworthy user experience).

this cross-industry exploration helped me identify key design patterns and content strategies such as clear value propositions, social proof elements and intuitive navigation flows that could be adapted to akka.app.

wireframes

i worked with the cmo who had a clear vision of akka.app’s goals and requirements so we could brainstorm together to explore what could work.

the landing page had to be impactful and clearly communicate the value proposition to first-time visitors so we focused on creating a clear information hierarchy and smooth user flow to guide users toward key actions such as signing up or exploring investment opportunities.

during this process, the close collaboration with the cmo helped align the design with business goals and user needs, allowing us to iterate quickly based on feedback before quickly moving to high-fidelity mockups.

from wireframes to design

i had to maintain visual consistency with the existing desktop version while translating its essence into an engaging mobile-first experience.

the existing dark UI is structured around shades of grey and blue, with contrasting orange and green accents, served as a strong base. i reused and reinterpreted these elements to keep a coherent brand identity while improving clarity and accessibility on smaller screens.

throughout the process, i held regular working sessions with the cmo to align on priorities, business goals and the tone we wanted to convey. this close collaboration helped to ensure the design met both user expectations and strategic needs.

lesson learned

this project gave me valuable insights into a different field from my usual experience, diving into a b2c mobile context reactivated design reflexes i hadn’t used in a while, which was refreshing.

as it was my first freelance project, it made me realize the importance of building confidence when presenting ideas and making decisions in front of clients.

it felt good to step out of my comfort zone and i’m willing to do it again !
